As a makeup artist (full disclosure: I am also a beauty director at Sephora), I am often asked how to update makeup and skincare routines to stay current each season.
The truth is, there are some tried and true tips that stand the test of time — like exfoliating and hydrating religiously — but I would be lying if I didn't say there are other tips you should be following to stay glowing.
Here, I've put together six skincare and makeup tips I think we'll need to follow in 2022 (as well as a few trends), and how to prep yourself to embrace it all.
Skincare
Layer Up On Moisture
The changing seasons means changes with our skin. As our first line of defense against the harshness of our environments, our skin needs some help in adapting to colder climates and seasons. Cooler temps can drain the skin of hydration, deplete our natural moisture barrier, and contribute to developing fine lines and wrinkles. A great way to combat this is to switch to products that are more suited for the season, like a richer moisturizer.
Pro tip: start your new skincare routine when you start changing your wardrobe to heavier clothing.
First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream Intense Hydration
First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream Intense Hydration is a fast-absorbing moisturizer that provides long lasting deep hydration. Plus, it contains colloidal oatmeal, shea butter, and other ingredients that work together to protect the skin and calm irritation and redness that can come from colder weather.
Caudalie Vinosource-Hydra SOS Intense Hydration Moisturizer
Caudalie Vinosource Hydra SOS Intense Hydration Moisturizer is another sure-fire way to pump up your skin's hydration and glow. This silky and rich cream will deliver the intense hydration of organic grape water, borage oil, and olive squalene, guaranteed to pump your hydration levels up by 90% after eight hours.
Stop Worrying About Worry Lines
We all have them, especially after the stress we've experienced the last two years. But the good news is we're seeing skincare brands showcasing many interesting, lesser known, ingredients that perform incredibly well and help solve some of our most common skincare concerns. More targeted ingredients, like peptides, will continue to be more common in the new year as they are great at helping to diminish fine lines and wrinkles and also do wonders for increasing moisture levels.

Exfoliation Is Key
Exfoliation is not a new concept, but it is one you should absolutely adapt into your skincare routine this year to enter 2022 glowing. Removing the top layer of dead skin cells on the surface of your skin will reveal more radiant fresher skin cells below and helps to promote cellular turnover. Whether you're using gentle daily exfoliation or once weekly deep peeling and exfoliating, you will absolutely see results.

Vitamin C Isn't Just Good for Colds
If you are not already using a vitamin C serum, this is a must. Vitamin C is a powerhouse ingredient that will help diminish dull tired looking skin and boost a glow worthy of bragging about. Not to mention, vitamin C also helps with dark spots, hydration and firmness — basically everything you want to make your skin look phenomenal.

Give Soft Brows a Try
Some trends are meant to be temporary, a moment to enjoy and then move on from. I believe the trend of "social media" style brows — those that are fully drawn in and overly sharp — will be left behind in the New Year. Softer, more natural brows will be huge in 2022 and it's time to embrace them.

Years and years ago, after finally mustering the courage to approach one of my makeup industry idols, and finding out his fabulous lashes were made out of paper, I learned that a product could do more than what it's marketed for. In other words, you don't have to use things in just one way. If paper can become the most luscious lashes ever, then a lipstick can be blush, and blush can be an eyeshadow, and an eyeliner can be lipliner, etc. Beauty is what makes us feel uniquely special. It's art, so be playful!
